JEEPNEY
JEEPNEY – these colorful long-wheel-base jeeps (reminiscent of rainbow-colored buses in Colombia) are an alternative means of transportation in Manila. Even though they post their destinations on their windshields, jeepney drivers tend to go whichever direction they see fit (depending on where the other passengers are going as well). For this reason, only the more adventurous foreigners use jeepneys (as well as those who spent enough time in Manila).
The base fare is P7.50 (for the first 4 kilometers). Students and seniors pay just P6 for their base fare. The sheer number of jeepneys on Manila’s roads is part of the reason why there’s so much traffic there.
